10 Strategies for Successful Site Supervision

  1. Develop and guide a robust and meaningful capacity building project that consists of allowable, non-prohibited activities.

  2. Notify the Regional Coordinator of any scope changes or unallowable activities (that does not align with the project scope generally and/or fundraising, advocacy, grant-writing specifically).

  3. Provide substantive assignments that present challenging opportunities appropriate for a Fellow’s personal and professional growth.

  4. Support the Fellow with task management, relationship building, and project troubleshooting. Provide clear guidance on Fellow’s day-to-day tasks, re-evaluate timelines, milestones, goals, and deliverables as necessary.

  5. Ensure all required reporting is completed throughout the service year.

  6. Support and facilitate ongoing engagement with beneficiaries throughout the service year.

  7. Support Fellow professional growth by participating in performance assessments, sharing networking and job opportunities at the end of the year, and providing mentoring and guidance.

  8. Ensure other staff are supportive of the Fellow’s role in the office, clarifying the Fellow’s role as Fellow and not intern.

  9. Address issues and concerns with the Fellow, and provide supportive, yet corrective action as needed.

  10. Keep the Regional Coordinator informed of any challenges.
